What people are saying about the guidebooks
"Harley and Abby McAllister of Spokane have walked the walk with their four boys over the past 17 years. Now they’re helping other families get kids outdoors. Their expertise at researching, compiling and presenting useful information is outstanding, as displayed in their entire Adventuring with Kids guidebook series.” – Rich Landers, The Spokesman-Review
"Yellowstone for Kids" is the first travel guide book I have come across written specifically for families. The chapters are practically laid out by region, making the "planning" of your trip no longer daunting, but now much easier. The book includes detailed descriptions of spectacular yet doable hikes, "must see" attractions, lodging and itineraries ... all with families as the focus. After reading this guide book, our family of five eagerly anticipates seeing bison, cheering Old Faithful, touching petrified wood, hiking Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, and simply skipping rocks or examining insects. I would not visit Yellowstone with kids without this book. -Betsy Chesney
"The authors have obviously spent a lot of time in Yellowstone. This book was very comprehensive and would be helpful for different levels of Yellowstone Park exploration -- from families who just want to hop out of the car for a short walk to those who plan to backpack and campout in the backcountry for days. We fall into that first category, and this book led us to some really easy, off-the-beaten-path hikes to pretty waterfalls where we weren't surrounded by the other thousands of people there each day during the summer. Trip reports organized by region include level of difficulty, distance, suggested allotted time, summary, a detailed description, and GPS coordinates. This made it easy to scan through and skip reading about the ones that obviously aren't suited to your family. There were even tips like the unofficial way to get the best view of famous Grand Prismatic Spring (hint: it's not from the boardwalk). I liked that the authors would include how difficult a hike was and if it was ideal for young kids or if you should reserve it for tweens and teens. The suggested itineraries and Top Sights to see were very helpful in planning our trip." -Coco Chan
